  Understanding Voice Call Monitoring

The UPLINX Remote Phone Control Tool supports forking an existing call to your desk-phone via JTAPI control and uses the Cisco Built-In-Bridge (BIB) on the monitored phone. The Cisco Unified Communications Manager feature Silent Monitoring allows monitored calls to be managed like normal calls.

Once you have connected to a remote phone with UPLINX Remote Phone Control Tool, enter your desk phone extension and press the [Monitor Call] button, and the remote phone will duplicate the voice stream to your desk phone.

The Cisco Unified Communications Manager's silent monitoring is invoked through CTI using Java Telephony Application Programming Interface (JTAPI). Silent monitoring has no perceptible effect on the monitored phone or its visual display. Also, there is no perceptible audio artifact that might alert call participants that their call is being monitored.

The web edition of the UPLINX Remote Phone Control Tool, has strong security features that make it possible to restrict silent monitoring to specific users of the Phone Control Tool, and can limit access to specific phones and also log any usage. An alert tone can be played to any monitored phone to alert call participants.

The UPLINX Remote Phone Control Tool  does not support call recording. Cisco CUCM's silent monitoring features do not support secured calls, so ensure security is disabled on phones to be monitored.

Please refer to Monitoring Voice Calls for information on how to use this feature.
