If there is no valid web server certificate applied to CUCM, the default on a standard installation (out of the box), the CUCM certificate is not valid. When connecting to CUCM with a browser, there will be a certificate error as shown here:

If there is the 'Certificate error' message, there are two options:

1.Do not use HTTPS in the Authentication URL because the phone will reject the connection when the CUCM certificate is not valid. Change the Authentication URL to HTTP (without the s for secure). In most cases this is simpler than installing a valid certificate.

2.Install a valid certificate as per Cisco documentation so that the web browser shows a valid certificate.
