The Uplinx Remote Phone Control Tool's bulk Background Images wizard deploys a background image from your desktop computer to any number of Cisco phones within a CUCM cluster. The image is automatically resized to the display requirements of each Cisco phone. To achieve the best image quality, resize the image to the exact display size required for each phone model with an image design tool and import that into the tool.
The Uplinx Remote Phone Control Tool's Bulk Background Images wizard also enables you to:
|The Bulk Background Image wizard, along with all other bulk features, requires a Professional or Enterprise license and is not included with the Standard or Basic licenses.|
This feature is available both from the application GUI and the command line. The command line mode can be scheduled from Windows Task Scheduler to automatically deploy background images according to the schedule. For example, a script can be executed to update the background image of phones based on the season, day of the week or latest announcement.
How to Deploy Background Images
To access this feature in the GUI mode, go to the Bulk Background Images tab from the main GUI and follow the steps provided by the application wizard.
Getting started with one of the three options:
Click on the Next button to proceed.
Use the Add Phones... button to create a list of phones by using search criterias for device pool, device name, extension range or model. Then press the Add Phones... button. The search and Add Phones... can be performed multiple times to build a complete list of phones with several search conditions.
Only phones that support background images can be selected.
Once all phones for background image deployment have been added to the list, click Next .
Upload the image files into the tool. These images will then be deployed to all phones in the list. Select a specific model entry or all model entries and then press the button Upload Background Image for Selected Models.
The selected image file will be automatically resized to fit the phone model's screen size when deployed. Alternatively, upload an image per model, correctly sized. This allows you to fully control the image quality and avoids any distortions caused by the auto-resize. An externally edited image file can be selected by clicking the Select... button next to each screen type.
Once you have assigned a background image for each model, click Next .
Prepare All Phones button to enable the Web Access and
configuration settings for
within CUCM. These
settings can be
found on the phone's configuration page in the CUCM Administration. The
settings need to be enabled to allow the uploading of background images
to the phones. These configuration changes will be undone on CUCM during the last
steps of the deployment wizard.
To enable or disable web access, the phone needs to be restarted for the settings to take effect . Any existing calls in progress will not be interrupted by the restart as the CUCM automatically defers the restart operation until calls end.
Please resolve any issues encountered during the 'Prepare Step' before attempting to deploy background images in the next step. Phones that have failed in this step will not be able to upload the background image in the next step.
Click on Next to proceed to the final deployment step.
The application uses the built-in web server to serve images to the phones via HTTP.
To configure the built-in web server, please see
Configure Built-In Web Server
make sure that the selected IP and port are reachable from each phone
and that the Server tab > [Test All] button has verified
the configuration, server access and firewall settings.
It is recommended to:
Please expect the operation to take a few minutes if a large number of phones are processed. To provide a rough time estimate, it takes about 1 minute to process 100 phones. Do not add too many phones initially and then increase the batch size.
Step 7. Undo Preparation
After the background images are deployed, run a undo on all the phones to restore them to the pre-preparation state. This step can also be reached by loading a saved settings file at the end of Step 6, if the Phone Control Tool has been closed after the background image deployment is complete.
What to Do When Some Phones Failed to Upload the Background Image?
Any failure when deploying a background image to a phone will be flagged with an error icon in the Finished column on the left side panel. To identify the issue, check the View Log check box of the phone and investigate the detailed logs for this phone on the right log viewer. The bulk deployment can then be re-tried for the failed phones by clicking the button . This button will only appear when there are failed phones. These failed phones are then saved to a configuration file. This configuration file can then be imported in the first step of the Bulk Background Image wizard to re-try image deployment only to the failed phones.
